After a hiatus of two and a half years the Sheffield & District Chess Association winter season restarted this week, and three of our teams were involved in the opening round of matches.
The B team had a nice 4-2 win at home to Ecclesall C team in Division 3. The two Daves, Watson and Glossop, both drew on the top two boards; Barry, on board 3, was the only loser; and Craig, Ian and Andy Nettleship all won. Talk (perhaps slightly premature) in the pub afterwards was of a push for promotion.
The C team, playing in the same division, lost at home to SASCA B. New boy Dale won on board 6, and Geoff Brown drew on 2. Edward, Paul, James and Lewis all lost.
A drawn match was the result for our D team, playing in the 4-player Division 4. Bob and John both lost while Mohammed and Josh Tedder, playing his first match, both won.
The next match is the 'derby' match in Division 3 with the C team hosting the B team on Monday, 3rd October. With one of them going for promotion, and the other already looking at a relegation fight, it should be a tasty event.
